When I started my Twitter, I decided that I should do something special when I reach 1,000 followers. And when I did.
I gave away a photo to a randomly picked fan.
Then I decided that when any of my social medias reaches a new 1,000 fans, I will have another fan giveaway!
And guess what, I hit 2,000 Twitter followers a few days ago!
The first time I did this I used Rafflecopter to get fans to sign in for their chance to win. But I soon realized the inherent flaw – that you (my already amazing fan) had to go in and enter your info into the Rafflecopter drawing to have a chance to win. Even though you were already following me. And a few people mentioned after that they missed the announcements on Twitter until after the drawing ended. That sucks. They were from people who I talked to regularly, but because the life of a tweet is mere seconds, they missed announcements.
The other problem with Rafflecopter for this type of ‘appreciation giveaway’ is that it enticed new people to follow me, which is awesome, but they were following me simply to win a photo, not because they like what I do. That made it feel cheap. I really want to just thank my fans that I already have. That follow and talk with me because they like my blog, or my photos, not because they want to win something. Im not into the buying friends thing.
Luckily, the first girl who won, was an actual fan so that made me feel better, but I knew the next time I did this drawing, I had to do something new.
Well, when I started getting close to 2,000 on Twitter, I started researching other ways to pick random followers and found TwitterDraw.com. I can have a random person picked from my followers (by entering my name) or from a hashtag (say if I was hosting a Twitterchat or something). It’s cool!
So I entered my Twitter handle and voila!
@paulaamcdonald YOU ARE THE WINNER!
I love doing secret surprise thank you’s to everyone who appreciates me, and what I’m doing here at GoingNomadic. It’s awesome! I love you guys. Warm sloppy kisses to you all!
But this time I also decided to do a little more, because it’s the holiday season and all, and because I was all excited to see my number change from 1999 to 2000.
So Jarmo Järvi, who is my 2,000th follower, also won a photo!
I feel like Oprah…
Photos! PHOTOS FOR EVERYONE!
If you want a chance to win a photo yourself, you can follow me on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Each time I reach a new 1,000 followers on any of them, I give away a photo to one of you lovely people. And maybe at random other times just because I feel like it.
And because it’s the holidays, if you head over to DaniBlanchette.com, you can get 15% off any print or gift item with the code HappyHolidays15. Good through Dec 31.
Thank you all!
