I have been working hard updating my photography website lately, so I can link it more fluidly with this travel blog.
I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and planning about the direction I want to move in with GoingNomadic and my photography recently, because face it, there are a lot of travel blogs that are all pushing out the same Top 10 lists on the same topics. And I was becoming very disenchanted with what I was writing, and feeling like I was just spewing out the same, overwritten on, topics. I didn’t like how my photo and travel websites felt disconnected, and I wanted to simplify and focus my goals – of doing just travel photography.
We all know that I am a photographer. I only write because I have to. I like to joke that the stories on GoingNomadic are just very elaborately captioned photos…but then I started thinking “Why aren’t I actually doing that?”
So I am working to change stuff. Starting with my photography website. Here are some of the changes I’ve been working on:
- You can now see it under DaniBlanchette.com. My old name will still redirect to my new name, but you may notice that many photos here, on GoingNomadic, have broken links at the moment. I will be working this weekend to fix these as fast as possible (because I changed my main url, all the links that went directly to the photos have to be reentered). It’s an easy, but tedious fix, so please bear with me while I do this.
- I will also, over the next few weeks, be working on updating the collections on my photo site – which are listed by country and city, so you have a better collection of images from each destination.
- All photos in my collections are now available under the CC BY-NC license. This means you can download the photo – for free – and use them non-commercially as long as you credit “Photo by Dani Blanchette” when you use it. This means you can use these photos for your own non-commercial blogs and students can use them for school reports. You can also post them on your own, personal social media pages.
- You can easily license the photos for commercial use straight from my website and at way less than it would cost you to license from, say, a major stock agency. I have 2 main licenses featured on each photo page (One-Time Print and Online Only licenses) for easy purchase, but I understand in the business world there are infinite needs and uses for stock images. If you wish to use a photo for a need not covered, please contact me through the contact page with details on your desired usage and your budget.
So this is what I have been up to this week. There is more to come as I rework this site. Don’t worry, there will still be useful travel tips and destination information, but I am moving more into showcasing my photography and telling stories the stories behind them.
