You are all going to hate me, but I am not that into this book.
It’s good. It is definently a good book. And it’s long. So it will keep you going for a while, and keep you from spending $30 in 5 days on new books, but overall, I could totally take or leave this series.
Because EVERYONE seems of love the crap out of the Game Of Thrones series, I decided to give it a whirl. What I found, was probably a way-too-over-hyped series, so what should have been exciting, I expected too much from and feel pretty ‘MEH’ about. I found this book to be too drawn out. Sometimes I felt like it was trying too hard to give details and back story about things that don’t necessarily move the book along.
And being a story about kings, and queens, and courts, and wars, I expected drama and lots of it. But the drama in this book I found forced and overdone. It gave a bitter reality tv, or Disney high school drama-ish taste, that at times mad me want to punch myself in the face, because I was just like “Oh my God, get over it!” The drama felt unnatural at times, and thought it was never annoying enough to put the book down, there were many times I seriously considered stopping the book.
Each chapter follows a different character, telling intertwining plot lines that weave together to form the whole picture. By the middle of the book, two of the stories, about Arya and Daenerys, start getting quite interesting. I kept reading the book just to hurry up and get to one of these two girls’ chapters. By the end of the book, the story finally started to get interesting, just in time for the book to get really weird (in like the last paragraph) and end. But weird to the point I’m not sure if I actually want to try out the next book in case it is better, or just forget the series and move on.
Honestly, I will likely read the next book. If for no other reason then I am spending too much money at Amazon, and need something that I know is long, and I know is somewhat interesting. I mean, I really have no reason not to love this book, but I just don’t for so many reasons.
A Game Of Thrones (Song of Ice and Fire) is written by George R. R. Martin and is the first in the Game of Thrones series. You may love it, hate it, or feel surprisingly, and confusingly, ‘meh’ like I do. But it is on Amazon for a really great price (especially for Kindle users), so why not go find out how you feel about it yourself, and let me know.
Cheers!
