UPDATE:
I received votes for about 15 different countries in the first few hours alone (through comments here, on facebook, and in private messages). I have realized that there are just too many countries in the world people want to know more about – so I’m going to do this in rounds.
- For the next few days, I’m taking names of countries you want me visit, write about, and photograph.
- After that I will make a list of the top 5 or 10 places, based on popularity first, then personal intrigue.
- Next week, I’ll write a new post, with a survey of these top countries that you can vote on. The most popular voted country is where I’ll head for my next big trip.
And now – on to my original post and how this whole idea to put my future in your hands started….
I’m having one of those times. Actually I’m having 2 of those times, put together.
First
I caught the travel bug again.
I’ve been doing this back and forth, Las Vegas to Colombia thing for so long, I don’t even feel like I’m traveling anymore. I’m just going home to home to home to…well you get it. I need travel. Actual travel. I can’t stop looking at maps. Working social media for BootsnAll is just feeding my travel bug.
I need to go somewhere new. Somewhere totally different. Somewhere not in the Americas.
Second
I’m in a lazy mood.
I don’t want to adult.
I don’t want to make decisions. I don’t want to do research. I don’t want to weigh the pros and cons of places, or figure out budgets. I don’t want to try to “pick the perfect place” to go because there are just too many damn places (ie: every country in the world) that I want to see and experience.
And, in my biggest whiny 3 year-old voice, “I JUST DON’ WANNA!!!!” (*stomps feet)
Here is the problem: You can’t be both at once. They are not conducive to each other.
I want to go somewhere… I don’t want to sit around for months doing research and adult things.
I want to travel…I don’t feel like putting on pants, nevermind making a major decision.
See, these 2 mindsets don’t really go together. Also, I don’t care where I go, as long as I go somewhere new.
Deciding where to go is always the hardest part.
So fuck it.
I’m not going to decide.
YOU ARE!
How this started:
It began as a simple, semi-joking, “I can’t decide” type of Facebook post:
Then my friend Sarah commented and I replied:
And that’s when it hit me.
CROWD-SOURCE WHERE I GO!
(And my friend Sarah may be joining. I’ve talked to here and she thinks this could be fun. I have aweso).
So, my dear followers, fantastic readers, and potential stalkers:
Where Do You Want Me To Travel To Next?
You get to pick where I travel. Leave the name of the country in the comments below, or click on either screenshot and post your pick straight onto the facebook post.
Countries I’ve Been To Already (and are invalid entries): Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Kenya, and anywhere in the Americas.
Voting will stay open for 3 weeks (until June 26, 2015). This round will stay open until I have time to create a proper survey and write a new post sometime mid-next week!
About Dani Blanchette
I am a freelance travel and music photographer and creator of GoingNomadic.com.
I love music, food, and exploring cities without guidebooks. I’ve flown a helicopter, hitchhiked down the east coast USA, and once snuck into the back of a zoo (in Serbia) and pet a lion.
I am always up for an adventure, and sometimes I videotape them.
